FE-HRHOC 25th Anniversary Dinner – 21 April 2012

The FE-HR Holden Owners Club of the ACT Inc. celebrated its 25th birthday on 21 April 2012 with a dinner at the Hellenic Club Phillip. About 30 members and family gathered to mark the event with happy conversation and reminiscing. The night was highlighted by a special one-off award made by the president. The 25th Anniversary Award for Long and Outstanding Service was made to John Tonkin.

John is one of 3 original club members who have been with the club across its 25 years. John was very active in the early years of the club, but has sensibly slowed down to enjoy his elder statesman role in more recent years. John has a real passion for the club and has contributed in many ways. He has held many positions on club committees over the years. He has had a particular interest in helping some of the big club events be great successes, including by serving on organising committees for Nationals and ACT Holden Days.

Through his time with the club, John has had the support of wife Gloria, who is much loved by all in the club who know her.

John’s member profile sits on the club website at http://oldgmh.wordpress.com/1987/01/12/john-tonkin-joined-1987/

What is most apparent about John is the love and respect he has from those in the club who have worked alongside him and to whom he has been a friend. A club event always lifts a little when John arrives, as the friendliness he brings with him spreads around. You only have to see how many kisses he is freely offered by the ladies to know how well he is regarded.

Clubs don’t just happen. They need the passion and commitment of people. We have been fortunate to have John and many others who have helped to develop and foster this club and to enable it to be in such good shape today and into the future. This club owes much to John for the way he has committed himself to it over many years. Thanks John for all you have done and continue to do for this club.

UPDATE – 25 March 2012 – Shannons Wheels Expo

UPDATE - The Shannon’s Wheels 2012 event has been relocated to Thoroughbred Park in  Mitchell.

The decision to relocate the event was taken following concerns that the recent rain might have softened the grounds at Old Parliament House and damage may be sustained.
